The best things in life are free huh?
Love. The beach. Puppy kisses. All free. All fabulous.
But there’s many, MANY things that are amazing, that cost.
Organic fruit and veg (unless you grow your own-kudos). A great DSLR. Holidays. A nice red lipstick.
And, my dream. Yep, that certainly didn’t come free.
A few years ago- 5, to be exact, I had a masterclass with a high level business coach. He said to the group DREAM BIG.
“What’s your biggest, craziest, don’t-even-think-it’s-possible dream”.
Everyone was scribbling away. Best selling albums. To own a building in the city and fill it with eco-friendly offices. Another was wanting to write a book.
Hmmmm. My biggest dream.
I had no idea.
I mean, I wanted things, but they were all things that were totally possible. I could see them and feel them internally… knowing they would manifest themselves externally eventually, when the timing was perfect.
That night, I sat on it.
Surrounded by notebooks, terrible scrawly notes, and the bare bones of a website, one small dream was tangible. I could taste it. Educate. Educate. Educate.
But still. There was bigger work for me to do. I sat on it some more.
No blinding white light. No lightning bolt from above. No lightbulbs. Just a feeling, deep in the pit of my seemingly never-ending ideas bank…a feeling.
A school. A cooking school. Where people could grow. Learn.
I imagined the students; cool, but not too cool. Approachable-cool. Endless cups of herbal tea. Healthy snacks. Laughing. Solid friendships; those where you could see the love sparking between people. Laid back, yet alert, these students were the shit. They wanted to learn. They were hungry.
I imagined teaching the classes. I’d be the cool, but not-too-cool teacher. Rocking the whiteboard with my scrawl. Delivering quality and life changing content. I would be their friend, guide. I would tear up when watching them reach full potential.
And the funny thing is, I never felt the call to be a teacher (well, in the traditional sense).
So, that was it. To have a cooking and health school, of sorts.
Then, the bullshit came.
Well, firstly Adele- you aren’t a teacher. You need formal quals to rock that white board. You’d need hundreds of thousands. A building big enough with all of the right amenities. Council approval. Staff. Equipment. STUDENTS.
But still, I wrote it down.
It felt good, but I didn’t dwell too much. “I’ll do that when I’m grown up”.
When, a year ago, the idea of an online course came to me, and started to form in little bursts and ideas…small, at first, then larger and larger, and more amazing that I ever would have imagined, I knew I was taking action on that big dream.
So take action I did.
Website upgrade- check.
Web designer with dreams as big as mine- check.
Graphic designer who ‘got’ me- check.
Videographer who could capture me in frame- check.
And hours. Hundreds of them.
And bang. There were sparks. Lightning bolts.
Out of nothing… I created something amazing.
I truly did that.
Dreams don’t always look like we thought they would. I don’t have that brick and motar school (yet), but what I’ve created right now, feels so damn good. Perfect.
But it didn’t come free. I didn’t need hundreds of thousands, but I needed tens of thousands. I made it happen. I saved. Every ebook, every client, every workshop, every event… every damn cent I made, went straight back into the business. I cherish making my own money, as opposed to being paid by the man. It’s money I’ve earned, and it feels so good.
So over $80,000 later, the Academy is alive and kicking. Yep. Over $80,000. To create something like I’ve done takes something. It takes something deep inside that will do anything to bring that dream to life. Even if it was $180,000, I still would have made it happen.
I’m here to tell you, that some dreams are free. Absolutely free. But some dreams cost. Like mine.
But I found a way to make it happen, and so will you.
If you’ve got a dream that seems so freakin big and unbelievable, and will cost you a butt-load of cash, or take up all of your time, or make you feel like you’ve got nothing left in you…
Do it anyway.
- Start now. Don’t let people talk you out of it (keep it quiet, if you wish).
- Know that, in the words of Walt “If you can dream it, you can do it”.
- If I can, you can- honestly.
- Start with the free dreams- that’s what I did. The free dreams of making delicious food and writing blogs that changed lives (which I still love to do).
- Write them down. Internally dialogue about it (no you aren’t crazy for talking to yourself).
- Put them on your vision board.
- Don’t ever think that dream is too ridiculous, too big, too hard. It will always appear, in one way or another. It’s just up to your to take action.
My dream came true. I’ve got my school. I’ve got the cool teacher- me and my awesome educating guests.
Come and be one of my cool students. I know you love tea, and healthy snacks. I know you’re hungry for info. I know you’re approachable and friendly and ready.
The Vegie Head Academy is open for registration NOW. Come and see what a dream come to life looks like.
