Starting a plant based diet is easy!
Keen to start on a plant based diet but struggling to get out of the junk-food rut? I promise, it’s not as hard as you think. A few simple changes is all it takes.
Fill your fridge and pantry with clean, healthy wholefoods
Simple! Surround yourself with the good stuff, and you’ll eat the good stuff! You’re going to make it easier to switch to a plant based diet if you keep your space free of rubbish.
Everyday, replace this-for-that, and focus on what you ARE eating
Instead of sugary cereal with cow’s milk for breakfast, or white toast with preservative filled spreads, have a delicious smoothie or bowl of warming brown breakfast rice. For lunch; swap the burger and fries, or greasy noodles for protein packed quinoa and vegetable salads, vegie filled sandwiches or soup! Dinners are a cinch. I know that frying up some chicken, baking some chips and boiling some vegies seems simple, but I promise, plant based dinners are even easier! How about Udon Noodles with a Tangy Almond Sauce? Bombay Potatoes- even better than the dish from your local Indian takeout! Maybe Vegie Burgers of Croquettes are more your thing? All totally do-able!
Make decisions based on nutrition, not hunger
Keep in mind that plant based nutrient dense food is going to keep you fuller for longer, and will definitely be healthier than sugar and trans fat laden junk food. It may seem a little bit more time consuming to make something from scratch, but it’s going to be cheaper, and benefit your health in the long run.
Keep it simple!
You don’t have to be a 5- star Chef. If you’ve got 4-5 recipes up your sleeve that you, and your family enjoys, stick with them. Just until you find your feet. You don’t have to go ALL in at once (unless you really want to!) And don’t beat yourself up! You don’t need to be a saint. Just start somewhere. If you fall off the wagon, get back on it.
Educate, educate, educate
Read books, blogs, watch documentaries…fill your mind with knowledge, so you can fill your body with healthy food!
