An Easy Way to Reduce Plastic in the Bathroom…

How are you tracking with your #plasticfreejuly?! Last year was a brilliant success and many of you loved the tips found in these blogs here and here. However one thing many people have struggled with is one of the simplest things that we all need, and use, multiple times a day. No matter where you are in the world, this is something you’ll use… with the exception of a few countries. Guessed what I’m talking about yet?  I’ll give you a hint: We use it down south (and I’m not talking just in Melbourne!). It’s toilet paper! When you go to your local supermarket, you can see a wall of TP as far as the eye can see. And most of it is wrapped...

Why I Love Travelling Solo

I never thought that I’d be married, and travelling solo… because when you’re married you automatically have a travelling partner! Yet here I am, yet again, happily leaving my husband behind, to see different places and experience different things. Think I’m nuts? Read on.   The Early Years When I was younger, I wanted to do the Gap Year, the Contiki tours, the years spent traipsing around other countries. I wanted to be drunk at Oktoberfest and dance at the Carnivale. I wanted to meet new people and experience things abroad that I wouldn’t have been able to at home. Now don’t get me wrong – I did travel, a lot. But it was always with a boyfriend or a...

Why I no longer use Himalayan Rock Salt – and why you should stop using it too – sustainability is the key people!

Himalayan Sea Salt is in most of my savoury recipes, I know. But hear me out. I’ve decided to say goodbye to that sparkly pink salt once and for all, despite having an ongoing love affair with it (that rivals chocolate and chai lattes). You’ll no longer be seeing any Himalayan Sea/Rock Salt in any future Vegie Head recipes… and here’s why. I’ll give you a hint: Himalayan Sea Salt is not sustainable. Note: This is not a paid or sponsored post in any way. It’s based purely on my own research and findings. A funny aside- someone pointed out it was ‘Rock Salt’ – not ‘Sea Salt’ – however I’ve called them both interchangeably over the years and even...

Working out on a vegan diet- and my main motivation for moving my body every day.

It’s been a while between personal posts. And not for any reason- there’s been plenty of stuff happening (you know I love sharing over on my social media channels) that I could easily write about, but I just didn’t feel called to share it.   On my snapchat (vegieheadadele) this morning I asked my wonderful community what they’d like me to blog about. And I had a great question from Melissa. She video snapped me (love it!) and asked to share my workouts and what I eat before and afterwards for energy. Working out on a vegan diet isn’t hard- and it can be done easily, simply and healthily! Now, as snapchat is very much a fast moving platform, I...

How to Join in the #plasticfreejuly Challenge! And Tips to Make a Difference

Quick question. Did you know that Australians dump over 1 million tonnes of plastic waste in landfill each year?   Scary, right? It is! And if you’re not concerned, you really should be. Even just enough to read the end of this blog, by which you’ll hopefully see the ramifications of our choices, and pledge to make better ones. Plastic surrounds us. It’s everywhere- in our fridge, in our pantry, our bathrooms, even our closets (plastic coat hangers I’m looking at YOU) and if you’ve ever bought anything, guaranteed there’s some form of plastic packaging on it. So we use it, but what happens then? Where does plastic go? Some of it gets recycled. Some of it is reused. Most...
