Every time I’ve returned to Bali (over the last ten years), I get gobsmacked at how much it’s changed – in a relatively short amount of time. Aside from the local Warungs’ (restaurants), there’s now an abundance of healthy, vibrant vegan restaurants and cafes, and many vegan options at any number of eateries. I spent one of my weeks here in Seminyak, and wanted to share some of my favourite finds. *Note: This is not a paid or sponsored blog. Food and Accommodation was paid for by me. All opinions and images are mine. Location I stayed right ON ‘Eat Street’, also known as Oberoi or Jalan Laksmana. This is the second time I’ve stayed here, and my hotel...
Whether you’re a football fan or not- there’s no denying that footy fever can very quickly sweep through entire households and friendship groups. Take me for example; an Essendon fan (by proxy) sat glued to the semi final. Definitely not something you’d normally catch me doing, but the fever had hit, and a bunch of us cheered the Bulldogs (yay, a dog themed team!) all the way to the finals. Now there’s a bevy of Grand Final BBQ’s and Parties to choose from, and menus to plan! I usually arm myself with a range of dishes that I can entice others with, while also keeping myself satisfied. Here are some dishes that’ll keep your vegetarian and vegan Grand Final guests...
Himalayan Sea Salt is in most of my savoury recipes, I know. But hear me out. I’ve decided to say goodbye to that sparkly pink salt once and for all, despite having an ongoing love affair with it (that rivals chocolate and chai lattes). You’ll no longer be seeing any Himalayan Sea/Rock Salt in any future Vegie Head recipes… and here’s why. I’ll give you a hint: Himalayan Sea Salt is not sustainable. Note: This is not a paid or sponsored post in any way. It’s based purely on my own research and findings. A funny aside- someone pointed out it was ‘Rock Salt’ – not ‘Sea Salt’ – however I’ve called them both interchangeably over the years and even...
Since writing Delicious Doggy Dishes, one of the most common questions I get asked is “How do I get my dog to eat more vegetables?”. Some of the dogs in question have never eaten vegetables in their life, others have frustrated owners who have tried desperately for a long time to include more vegetables in their diets, and others are new to being a fur-parent (welcome to the club!) and want to know where to start. Before we get started: This is not a debate on raw vs cooked food. There are experts and canine nutritionists who sit on both sides of the fence- some for a fully raw diet, and some claiming that it’s easier for dogs to digest cooked food....
Has the bitter cold hit where you are yet? It’s come at me like a thief in the night, stealing into the room, filling up the corners with cold, damp air, and has found us all, literally, hunkered down under a mountain of blankets. It’s also had me running for warm breakfasts. Smoothies, be gone! Bring on the porridge. And admittedly, I’ve never had a great interest in it. Memories of Oliver Twist’s gruel, the yukky skin that sometimes forms when it’s left for too long, and bland, boring nursing home food (which yes, I did feed to many a resident, every fibre of me screaming “I’m sorry, it’s so plain!”). And yet. There’s just something about it that’s...
